Argentine Senate passes biofuels bill with rising biodiesel blend to lower house
Argentina's Senate approved a biofuels bill and sent it to the Chamber of Deputies. The bill declares the manufacture, storage, blending, marketing and self-consumption of biofuels to be in the public interest, and sets mandatory, staggered blending quotas: a minimum biodiesel blend of 7.5% initially, rising to 10% twelve months after the law takes effect. A transitional regime would run until 2036, when free competition in the market is to be released. The bill passed the vote in general by 41 votes in favour to 25 against. It also opens deregulation of complementary renewable energy, such as biomethane for pipeline injection and Sustainable Aviation Fuel (SAF).
