From ambition to implementation: building credible Power-to-X markets

RSB's new analysis argues that Power-to-X projects moving toward commercial deployment need more than proven technology: credible sustainability standards, independent assurance, traceable supply chains and clear claims rules. It traces RSB's PtX work back to its 2021 Power-to-X Working Group (52 participants from 31 organisations), whose provisions fed the RSB Standard for Advanced Fuels in 2022; cites Spain's Royal Decree 611/2026 introducing national RFNBO targets from 2027 as an example of emerging market frameworks; and points to RSB's Preliminary Certification Framework (launched July 2026) and the November 2025 Asia-Pacific PtX and sustainable aviation roadmap. It closes with six questions for developers: sustainability requirements, compliance demonstration, traceability, claims, market access, and evolving regulation.

Nel ASA and Rheinmetall sign MoU on decentralised synthetic fuel production for defence and critical infrastructure

Nel ASA (Norwegian electrolyser manufacturer) and Rheinmetall AG have signed a memorandum of understanding to explore joint opportunities in decentralised renewable fuel production for defence and critical infrastructure. The collaboration pairs Nel's electrolyser technology for renewable hydrogen with Rheinmetall's Giga PtX concept and systems-integration expertise to assess scalable, modular solutions for localised production of low-carbon synthetic fuels. Norway is the first target market, with Rheinmetall seeking a local champion partner in each market. The synthetic fuels would be drop-in substitutes for conventional fuels without changes to end-use applications; producing them near demand centres aims to reduce reliance on centralised production and long, vulnerable supply chains, strengthening energy security and preparedness.
