SAF · Sustainable aviation fuel
EASA reports an EU SAF share of 2.8% in 2025, above the 2% mandate
The European Commission reports that EASA's annual ReFuelEU review recorded 1.1 million tonnes of SAF supplied at EU airports in 2025, representing 2.8% of aviation fuel supplied and exceeding the 2% minimum. The Commission also says about 50 synthetic aviation fuel projects were awaiting final investment decisions. Those planned projects are separate from operational capacity.
LanzaJet reports ethanol-based jet fuel production at Freedom Pines Fuels
LanzaJet announced in November 2025 that its Freedom Pines Fuels facility in Soperton, Georgia had fully operated and produced fuels, including ASTM on-spec jet fuel from ethanol. This is the company's reported production milestone. The release does not establish current output, utilization or ongoing production at the date of this review.
LanzaJet selects Fluor for Project Speedbird front-end engineering design
LanzaJet reports awarding Fluor the front-end engineering and design work for Project Speedbird in Teesside, UK. The company describes planned annual output of over 90,000 tonnes of SAF and renewable diesel. This is a design milestone; the source does not establish construction completion or commercial operation.
LanzaJet reports a £10 million UK award for Project Speedbird development
LanzaJet says it received a £10 million award from the UK Advanced Fuels Fund to support the next development phase of Project Speedbird in Teesside. The proposed ethanol-to-SAF facility is progressing into front-end engineering design. The announcement describes a future production target and does not establish that the plant is operating.
HVO · renewable diesel
Repsol plans renewable diesel supply for a Spanish concert tour
Repsol says it will supply more than 52,000 litres of its renewable Diésel Nexa for vehicles supporting La Oreja de Van Gogh's 2026 tour in Spain. The agreement is a downstream fuel supply commitment. The company's estimated emissions savings are claims in the source, rather than measured results reported by FuelScope.
Renewable methanol
Repsol plans renewable methanol supply to NCLH cruise ships from 2029
Repsol reports a long-term supply agreement with Norwegian Cruise Line Holdings for cruise calls at Barcelona. It says biofuel supply is planned from the 2026 European cruise season and renewable methanol supply from 2029. The release describes future supply commitments; it does not establish that methanol deliveries have begun.
Biodiesel
US senators propose extending the small biodiesel producer credit to 2029
Clean Fuels Alliance America reports that senators introduced a bill to extend the small agricultural biodiesel producer credit through 2029. The current credit provides $0.20 per gallon on the first 15 million gallons for eligible producers with annual output of up to 60 million gallons. The extension remains a proposal; the association says the existing credit expires on December 31, 2026 unless Congress acts.
Feedstocks
ISCC tests a multi-parameter approach to used cooking oil screening
ISCC's working group studied 18 used cooking oil samples from five regions through nine laboratories. It found comparable laboratory results but substantial variation in the materials, and did not establish universal authenticity thresholds. Its preliminary screening approach remains a research outcome and has not been embedded in certification processes.
E-fuels
Repsol targets full operation of its Bilbao synthetic-fuels demo plant in 2027
